POW! Tailgating

Longhorn Football Tailgating

Tailgating Overview:

Longhorn Tailgate party with people dancing to a live band.

Impromptu quartet playing the UT Fight song. Things just kinda happen out there.

The tailgate party areas are huge and scattered just off-campus because you can’t tailgate on campus where the stadium resides. There are only 2 bars around the stadium for non-tailgaters including Scholz Beer Garten or Posse East for pre-party festivities but they are small and get packed.

That’s why so many people throw private tailgate parties. And let us tell ya, Texas is doing it right–bigger and better than anyone.

Longhorn Tailgate Atmosphere

Longhorn Tailgating

Most Longhorn tailgating spots are in parking lots and on pavements but there’s a few spots in the grassy knoll.

Most people have food, drinks, tents, chairs, a grill–ranging in size from tiny to literally, an entire trailer. The bigger (better) ones have TVs with a satellite dish up and running. Many tailgates get in on some tailgate games like cornhole (it’s more innocent than it sounds) or washers. It’s like the Vegas strip of tailgating. And while we no longer provide complete tailgate set-ups we can provide TVs, satellite dishes, and generators. Contact us for info.

Tailgating Areas

There is tailgating on the east side of I-35 near UFCU Disch-Falk Field, a handful of places north of the stadium not worth mentioning, and then south of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, where the best tailgating is. Our tailgate spots are right in the heart of the UT tailgate action at 17th and Congress (with a nice view of the State Capitol Building). You’ll be surrounded by plenty of other tailgates and will be within walking distance of AM1300 The Zone’s Bevo Blvd and ESPN Austin Game Day show at Scholz’s.

But securing a spot is near impossible unless you are a donor or want to contact us. But if you are brave and have a few years to wait for something to open up, learn how to get your own.

Texas Longhorn Tailgate Parking

Car parking, much like tailgating spots, are a premium when the Longhorns play. There are some public lots that fill up fast but probably your best bet. And don’t expect much parking within an hour or two of kick-off.

Longhorn Game Day Shuttle Service

Longhorn Express logoThere is a shuttle service to tailgates/the game called Longhorns Express. It’s the only legit service outside of a cab or Uber that we’re aware of. They’ll pick up at:

Barton Creek Mall:  The Barton Creek Mall route drops off and picks up at the corner of University Ave. and 21st St.
Intramural Fields: The IF route drops off and picks up at the corner of Dean Keeton and San Jacinto

Shuttles begin 2-1/2 hours prior to kickoff. Transportation to DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium stops after kickoff. Shuttles begin returning passengers to the remote lots at the end of the third quarter. The last shuttle departs the stadium one hour after the game ends. $10/person; children 12 and under ride free. Reserve here.
