UTSA Football Tailgating
Roadrunner Tailgate Overview
Moving to D-1 NCAA football is no small task, and UTSA is trying to get on the college football map through conference USA. UTSA tailgating is still trying to find it’s tailgate personality because they don’t have their own stadium, but they’re working on it! Every year we see the tailgates get a little bigger and a little more fun so it’s exciting to see. So get out there and support ‘em with a Texas-sized tailgate party!
UTSA Tailgate Areas and Atmosphere
It’s pretty typical tailgating there–food, drink, TVs, RVs. The usual suspects. It’s just on a slightly smaller scale than UT Austin. But it’s a bit more intimate since you can surround the stadium and most tailgates are in the same area. What’s great is, the Alamo Dome is walkable to the Riverwalk so it’s easy to pre-party or post-party with or without the tailgate.
With games at the Alamo Dome, you are only a highway away from downtown San Antonio. That being said, once you get near the stadium, there’s limited options. There are a few bars in the area but they get pretty packed, pretty quickly. So, throwing your own tailgate, does have its advantages. Still, the area does have some restrictions of note:
- Tailgating in designated areas may not begin before 8:00 a.m. on game days
- No glass but alcohol is ok
- Any grills must have a fire extinguisher on-hand
- Only 24 spaces available for RVs at $240 a pop
UTSA Tailgate Parking
Since they currently play at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas they have few limitations on tailgate areas. There are tailgate parking right next to the stadium in various lots all. Some are locked up with students and season ticket holders, but there’s usually enough space to find some cheap parking. Get season parking: UTSA Tailgate Parking Form.
UTSA Tailgate Shuttle
There is a game day shuttle by Via to and from the Alamo Dome with 4 pickup areas: UTSA’s Main Campus, Crossroads, Madla Transit Center and Parkhills Baptist Church. These start 3 hours before kick-off and begin 45 minutes after the game ends. Public rate is $5 round-trip but half that for students and faculty.
